Record Store Engagment | Grand Rapids, MI | Chantal + Ben

When Chantal and Ben wanted to meet up at a record store for their engagement session I knew it was going to be a great day. We started off with a cocktail hour (I really think this should be mandatory! let loose ya’ll!) and then headed to Vertigo Music to check out the record selection (things were purchased…they weren’t just pretending to search for the photos… lets get serious!). Chantal and Ben are REALLY into Vinyl so it just seemed right for all of us to start there.  We then headed to Pyramid Scheme and Stellas to play some games and finished off with a drink at Grand Rapids Brewing Co.

I had sooo much fun with these two. I have known Chantal for awhile and getting to know them together has been awesome. They get married tomorrow, and I am so excited it is ridiculous. I love these two. They had me over for brunch this past Sunday and it was the most relaxed morning I have had in awhile and really needed it. So THANKS GUYS <3 LOVE YOU AND SO JAZZED FOR TOMORROW!

University of Michigan Engagement | Catherine + Chris

Catherine + Chris!!! YES! From the moment we first talked I knew these two had it going on! We met up to do their engagements and get to know each other at University of Michigan and bombed around Ann Arbor, MI shooting and making fun animated gifs. I cannot wait for their wedding next summer! As if it is almost fall….. so glad we got to get together during the summer attempt to beat the heat. It was so hot/humid this day and working in mid-day sun is complex and awesome sauce.

P.S. I went to Michigan Sate, and I bleed green hard but there is a special place in my heart for UofM since both of my parents went there. So <3 to A squared (and Zingermans….mostly Zingermans….OH! They went to Zingermans after this I do believe!)

Chicago, IL Engagement Photography | Michelle + Kevin at Northwestern University

Michelle and Kevin met up with me this spring, just north of Chicago, IL at Northwestern campus in Evanston, IL  for a really fun, laid back engagement session on the beach, in the wildflowers and romping around campus. I got to know them really easily and loved hearing the background of their love story that started in my favorite midwest city, Chicago.

Michelle and Kevin met through a mutual acquaintance and started talking through social media and skype because Michelle was visiting family in Europe at the time! When she got home they went on their first date and had so much fun they ended up hanging out almost every day after (not caring that it was almost a one hour bike ride through the city to visit each other). They love playing video games together, riding bikes through the city and visiting their favorite local place for good food and drinks.

They get married here on Saturday for what should be a lovely day at Crane Orchard. It is blatantly obvious when hanging with these two just how much they adore each other. I felt like we became fast friends and they also are ridiculously fun to be around. I cannot wait to see Michelle in her custom gown romping through the Orchard toward Kevin on Saturday!!!

Fenway Park Boston, MA Engagement Photography | Sam + Shane

Sam + Shane presented the idea of bringing me to Boston for their engagement photos and I JUMPED RIGHT ABOARD THAT IDEA TRAIN. I was so pumped. I flew out excessively early Sunday morning and we spent the day exploring. A few days before I left Sam and I were chatting and she asked if I would be ok with doing some photos at Fenway Park.

“oh sure yeah that should be just great” I calmly replied, while doing an actual physical dance of joy in my living room. Now, I am not a huge fan of sports or baseball but I have spent my life knowing how awesome/old/cool Fenway park is. I was stoked to get a background tour and photograph their love of the game (and team rivalry!) at this gorgeous architectural haven. We then headed to Boston Public Garden, the Institute of Contemporary Art and Castle Rock. The day  was just amazing. There is a reason I require all of my couples to do engagement photos. I get to know you guys so much as a couple, your likes and dislikes and how you interact with each other, it really makes the wedding day so much better. And we become closer which makes it more comfortable for you and better for me to gauge the level of fun you want to have during portrait time (and lets all admit. getting your photo can be boring, but I constantly try to have a fun time at every session).

I had so much fun getting to know them and exploring Fenway Park in Boston! I cannot wait for their wedding day this October.

Muskegon, MI Engagement Photography | Lauren + Adam

Lauren and I met while in Central Park Players production of RENT. Instantly I knew I had to photograph her stunning gorgeous face and ended up doing a portrait session for her headshots for the show. I ended up having an engagement session giveaway last winter and she WON!!! Her and Adam ended up getting engaged not much later at Harry Potter World (WHAATTT I am so jealous of this). I was so stoked to finally schedule their complimentary session and romp through the beach in Muskegon for this session. They were troopers, it was hot and sticky, there were bugs, and they even agreed to romp in the cold cold water of Lake Michigan.

I am so excited because after this they also decided to book me as their wedding photographer next spring! They will be getting married at the Frauenthal theatre (one of my favorite spaces as an actress) and celebrating the after party at Fricanos. I cannot wait for their special day and wish them all the best as they journey together in Virginia. <3 Here are some of my favorite moments from their session.

Smoke Bomb Anniversary Session | Mom + Dad

In an effort to get better w/ smoke bombs I conned my parents into heading outside after dinner tonight to help me experiment. I have been wanting to do a session with them for the 33rd (and a 3rd!) Wedding Anniversary (the 3rd part will be in October) and this seemed a good excuse. My sister was in town and assisted me as smoke magician and she really had a knack for playing with it. I decided to just go ahead and blog a few of my favorites because well, why not. So here you go.
