Traverse City, MI Engagement Photography | Kate + Adam

Traverse City is hands down my favorite place in Michigan to do engagement photography (and weddings too!). I met up with Kate and Adam the night before shooting a lovely wedding there and they showed me their version of the beautiful Peninsulas. We started off having a beer and an appetizer at The Jolly Pumpkin and then they showed me some of their favorite spots, including a piece of land they both REALLY want to buy (DO IT GUYS! JUST DO IT!!!).

Their wedding is this Saturday back up in the area and I couldn’t be more excited to head back up their and capture their special day! Kate’s mom and dad are both professional photographers and I am so pumped to get them on the other side of the camera (OH AND NO PRESSURE AT ALL! :P). Woot woot! Getting excited for you two and your awesome relaxed evening you have planned.

Muskegon, MI Maternity Photographer | Smoke Bombs | Heather

Heather messaged me a few months ago asking “hey I really want to do a maternity session with you, with smoke bombs? is that weird?”. It is not something I had heard of but I was totally down to explore the idea! We decided to meet up in their new home town of Muskegon, MI to capture her as the glowing future mother of their baby boy Rivers. I had a blast putting together this shoot with Heather and was elated when Randy offered to come along for the ride! I ended up making this white maternity skirt and the purple wrap dress (+ the belt!). I am a pretty handy sewer and wanted Heather to feel like mother earth! With the addition of my floral crown I think we achieved it quite well. She is just GLOWING and I am so excited for them! Rivers is due in just a couple of weeks and he is already so so lucky. I cannot wait to meet him. I was so elated to be their wedding photographer I am now pumped to be their maternity photographer and eventually family photographer!

Muskegon, MI Engagement Photographer | Katie + Zach

Katie and Zach are getting married TOMORROW!!! I cannot wait. They kick off my wedding season in the best way possible. About a month ago Katie, Zach and I met up in Muskegon, MI to do their engagement photos. I figured romping around the locations their wedding will be hear would be a fun plan and we had a blast doing it! We then finished up the evening w/ some pizza and beer and long chats about life, love and family. I really feel like Katie and Zach are new best friends of mine.

Katie is the sweetest ever, and Zach is so funny he made me almost spit beer everywhere!! I can’t believe their wedding is TOMORROW and I am so delighted to get to capture this special day for them.

West Michigan Sand Dunes Engagement Session | Katelynn + Luke

I am really lucky to have made quite a few photography friends in the year I have been pursuing photography full-time. One of which is Ryan Inman. He invited me and Sydney Miller along on an adventure with his sister and her boyfriend (you guys..they aren’t engaged my title is sneaky..). Up to some amazing dunes a few hours north of Grand Haven. It is really great to shoot with photographer friends who are funny and so talented. We all took turns posing and moving them about I think we exhausted them with our adventures! This was like a month ago.. I cannot believe I have just been sitting on these photos for so long! I love them! Hope everyone is having a great palandrome week and feeling all the luck, I just got new print samples from a new print company which look AMAZING (one of the images from this session was one of my test samples!) <3. My wedding season starts this SATURDAY and I could NOT be more excited about it!! I have the greatest couples this year with the best love stories. This summer is going to rock.

Katelynn and Luke made the greatest models for this beach engagement session! I was so thankful that Ryan had this idea and invited me along. It helps to do some sessions for fun to keep my creative juices flowing! And this was a great way to kick off spring. This location is definitely one I will be revisiting in the future.

Photo Field Trip 2015

There are a few times in my life where an experience has truly changed my life. Going to Antarctica was one, moving across the country another and the most recent was going to Photo Field Trip.

It seems silly to say that a ‘photography workshop changed my life’ but that is how it is. Not only did I spend 5 magical days in a canyon with 600 amazing talented photographers from across the world but I also drove across the country with mega-babe rock star Catie Bartlett. On a huge whim I saw she had posted ‘hey if anyone wants to drive with me from Oklahoma I would love the company…’, even though I had never met her I was like SURE SIGN ME UP! Fast forward to end of February I was on my way in the air to Oaklahoma and then we were on our way to California.

We stopped a bunch of times on our trip there, to take photos, to eat food. To just generally enjoy our time. I second shot a wedding for Catie in San Diego, CA and headed with her all the way up to Napa (through the rain…on I5…..) to stay with her aunt and uncle and do some maternity shots and family shots. Then we headed back down to Santa Barbara for Field Trip.

This post is honestly mostly photos… I have spent weeks and weeks trying to come up with some really cool words about my trip and all the experiences but they really don’t do it justice. I think the photos show how much fun I was having, how much I was learning (from the fact that there are NOT too many photos you can tell I wasn’t taking photos the whole time…) and generally just getting to know all the amazing talent in my little photo world.

Truthfully I have learned rather quickly that this business can be a very lonely one. You shoot alone, edit alone, do everything alone. So forming a community of awesome photographers around me has always been priority uno so I don’t go absolutely insane in my brain! Between the Field Trippers and Heavy Hearted people I have plenty of awesome folks to chat with while editing (we do this…we all get on google hangout and chit chat while editing! It is pretty fun) and people to hang out with no matter where in the world I may roam.

These are my people, this is my kind of thing. This is my fucking bliss.

Grand Rapids, MI First Home Session | Lindsey + Mike

These sessions are just getting to be so awesome. I am learning more and more about my couples as they ask me into their first homes and show me around. Getting your first house seems pretty awesome, but it is also pretty insane. There is so much work that goes into owning a home and for Lindsey and Mike they decided to leap right in and start off the renovations before they even move in! Their kitchen and bathroom were totally gutted and we used it to our advantage to have fun capturing the process of home ownership.

Meanwhile, they are also planning a wedding and dealing with normal day to day life. MORE POWER TO YOU GUYS. Your home is going to be so lovely, it is in this wonderful neighboorhood that was super quiet on this Sunday morning, with a long driveway and a HUGE backyard. I can already feel the love in this home, they have moved a few things in and are continuing to make it their first home together. I cannot wait for their wedding this summer, and I am so pumped about this process for them(apparently the kitchen has drywall now! wahoo!). They are such wonderful people, with huge hearts and open minds. They were all about my crazy ideas (like lets get IN THE BATHTUB GUYS! that’s normal right?) and trust me completely. I hope they had as much fun as I did making these images.
